Iron Girl Project’s 1st Year in Review
We opened the Iron Girl Project (IGP) at the beginning of 2022 to honor our daughter and continue her legacy. This last year has been filled with so many emotions and accomplishments to reflect on.
In the course of 2022, IGP has become so much more than a way for our family to honor Lex. We are surrounded by friends (old and new), students, coaches, families and volunteers who share their stories, pictures, and memories of Lex. This has helped us to truly see the impact Lex made on the world in such as short time. She was a beloved daughter, sister, niece, cousin, student, goalie, Girl Scout, and friend. These personal connections are beyond important to us - thank you.
Helping Hands
IGP has dozens of people behind the scenes. We are amazed at the number of volunteers who are dedicating their skills, time and financial support to IGP. When we feel overwhelmed by grief, we are honored that our team steps up and keeps things moving.
Iron Girl Project Exceeded Expectations
In our first year, Iron Girl Project far exceeded our expectations! We’re proud to share with you some of 2022’s accomplishments:
1. We hosted 3 successful events:
Laps for Lex, 5K & 1 mile walk in June 2022
More than 300 participants from around the globe
Live and virtual runners & walkers
Links for Lex Golf Outing and Reception in October 2022
72 golfers from up and down the East Coast
173 dinner reception guests
Flex for Lex, a customized weight lifting event in November 2022
2. With your help, we raised more than ....
$25,000 for our scholarship fund
3. We awarded the first Alexea Karpinski Memorial Scholarship.
Our first recipient (a Hunterdon Central Regional High School lacrosse player) received a scholarship of $2,253 (Lex’s two jersey numbers combined)
We raised enough funds through generous donations to grow the scholarship program into the new year. We’re happy to announce in 2023 it will not only be awarded to one HCRHS student, but also multiple athletes in New Jersey.
Looking Ahead
Before we look ahead, we’d like to say that 2022 was a successful first year for the Iron Girl Project and we owe so much of that to YOU!
We have a lot on the horizon in 2023. For one, we’ll continue raising awareness of the importance athletics play in children’s lives. The value a team, mentors, and coaches all contribute to an athlete’s mental and physical strength is necessary. All of these factors nurture high school kids and help them better handle any adversity that may come their way.
We will continue to grow the Alexea G. Karpinski Memorial Scholarship with the goal of reaching more high school athletes in the country.
And finally, we will forever continue to honor our Iron Girl - Lex.
